Eden Valley took an early lead and clung to it to beat Regal 6-5 in the opening round of regions in Eden Valley on Saturday.

The Hawks scored three runs in the first, and Regal scored twice in the second to make the score 3-2.

It stayed that way until the ninth, when Eden Valley scored three times in the top of the inning, including a two-run double by Gordy Pennertz. Regal matched those three runs with a three-run homer by Brad Lieser, but couldn't quite make up the deficit.

Lieser had two hits, including the homer, and drove in all five of Regal's runs.

Rob Mettenburg, a draftee from Sauk Centre, took the loss while throwing a complete game. Al Faber also threw a complete game for Eden Valley and earned the victory.
