Hawks and Clippers Tied for First in Central Minny
Eden Valley and Watkins are tied for the lead in the Central Minny baseball league after last Sunday’s play, which found the Hawks winning the game that was rained out here with the score tied 8-8 in the sixth inning. When the dust had settled from the remaining three innings of play in that contest the Hawks were on top with the final score being 11-8. Eden Valley had scored three runs in the seventh and held the Clippers scoreless for the win. In the second contest the Clippers jumped to an early lead when Tom DeMorett pounded a ball out of the park for a home run in the first inning. From that point on Gordie Johnson, the Hawks hurler, held the Clippers scoreless until the seventh inning when an error and a fielder’s choice allowed two more Clipper runs to cross the plate. In the meantime Hennen, the Watkins hurler, was holding the Hawks batters at bay as he allowed but four scattered hits in going the distance in spite of showing signs of wildness at times. Gordie Johnson, the Hawks hurler, allowed but seven hits in going the distance and Johnson didn’t give up a walk, while striking out six. This leaves the Central Minny still in a tie for the first place with Watkins and Eden Valley each having an 4-1 record. This Sunday is an open date for the Hawks so they will play at the field with a group of “old time” stars of the past, and we do mean PAST!
