Hawks Lose, Face Clippers in Elimination Game The Eden Valley Hawks traveled to Cold Spring to take on the Rockies in a game in which the winner gets a bid to the Region 11C tournament. Two big innings for the Rockies spelled doom for the Hawks as they lost by a score of 6-3. The scoring didn’t happen very often, but when it happened, it happened in bunches. The Rockies would score first in the fourth inning when they scored four runs on five base hits. The Hawks would finally score in the top of the sixth inning. Darren Berg led off the inning with a walk. Two outs later, Joe Thiel drove the ball over the fence in left field for a two-run home run. Dan Hansen then reached on an error, advanced on a Jeff Haag walk, both runners advanced on a Chuck Geislinger single, and Hansen scored when Heath Kramer walked. After six innings, the Hawks were within one run. The Hawks threatened in the seventh when, with two outs, Matthew Pennertz singled. On a hit-and-run, Pennertz advanced to third on Joe Thiel’s single. After Thiel stole second, the Hawks had runners at second and third, but the runners would be stuck there, and that would be the last time the Hawks got a runner to second base. The Rockies added two runs in the eighth for a final score of 6-3. The Hawks will now play the Watkins Clippers Wednesday in Eden Valley at 7:30. The winner advances to the Region tournament and will play the Rockies in Cold Spring on Saturday at 2:00 in a seeding game while the loser of the Wednesday game is eliminated. Box Score |
