WATKINS 3, EDEN VALLEY 0

The sun was shining, the wind was howling, and the bats were quiet for the Eden Valley Hawks as they lost their first league game of the season to the Watkins Clippers 3-0 at the ballfield in Watkins. Bruce Geislinger struck out the Hawks thirteen times in eight innings of work, allowing only four hits while picking up the win.

The Hawks threatened early in the game, with Joe Thiel and Matthew Pennertz leading off with back-to-back singles. They were both unable to score, though, as the next three batters went down in order. The Hawks could only muster two more hits the rest of the game, one each to Al Faber and Jeff Haag, as they struggled to figure out the righthander for the home team.

The Clippers scored two runs in the fourth inning on three singles and an error. They scored a lone run in the seventh to give them the final 3-0 lead. The Hawks will try to get back on track this Friday, May 27th as the St. Nicholas Nicks come to town. The game time is 7:30 pm. They then have another home game on Sunday, May 29th as they take on the Cold Spring Rockies at 2 o'clock.
