EDEN VALLEY
3, ST. AUGUSTA 0
The Eden Valley Hawks and the Saint Augusta Gussies
combined for eight hits, with five going to the home
team, this past Sunday in Eden Valley. Joby McCann
picked up the win for the Hawks, pitching seven
innings while yielding only two hits. Al Faber got
the save with two innings of relief.
The Gussies threatened early in the game when, in
the second inning, Adam Senart led off with a single.
But he failed to reach second base when Sam Haag threw
him out on an attempted steal. Then, with two out and
Zack Laudenbach on first, Kyle Meyer doubled down the
left field line. The defense helped out again when
Jeff Haag threw the ball to Joe Thiel, who relayed the
ball to Sam Haag to get Laudenbach at home for the
out.
In the fifth inning, the Hawks scored all of their
runs. Al Faber reached base on an error, and Brandon
Moehrle followed with a single. One out later, Joe
Thiel walked to load the bases. St. Augusta pitcher
Adam Holsiemer's second pitch to Matthew Pennertz was
wild, and Cather Kyle Loch's throw to try to get Faber
got past Holsiemer covering home plate, scoring both
Faber and Moehrle and allowing Joe Thiel to reach
third base. Pennertz then singled, scoring Thiel for
the final Hawk run.
After the two hits for the Gussies in the second
inning, McCann held St. Augusta scoreless through the
seventh inning. He gave way to Al Faber in the
eighth, who gave up one hit in two innings to seal the
win and give the Hawks the win, bringing their overall
record to 3-1, 2-0 in the Central Valley League. The
Hawks will next play the Watkins Clippers next Sunday,
May 22, in Watkins at 2:00 pm.
