Hawks Clinch Spot in Region 10C Tournament

 

            The Eden Valley Hawks clinched a spot in the Region 10C tournament Sunday by defeating the Pearl Lake Lakers by a score of 4 to 2.  Dan Hansen pitched a full nine innings, giving up only two runs and six hits, for the victory on the mound.  Joe Thiel also scored every time he reached base, accounting for three of the four Hawks runs.  Joby McCann also added to the offense for the Hawks, getting three of their seven hits.  Chuck Geislinger added a double and Dan Berg added a triple into the mix.  Stephen Pennertz, playing right field, made several diving catches, taking away a few hits from the Lakers.

            The Hawks scored in the first and third innings after Thiel was hit by a pitch in the first and was walked in the third.  The Hawks scored again in the sixth when Chuck Geislinger doubled and in the seventh after Thiel reached on a single and scored on Berg’s triple.

            The Lakers first run came in the fourth when they got three hits to manufacture a run.  They scored again in the seventh after a single, a double, and a ground ball that scored the run.

            The Hawks will now play next Saturday in Eden Valley at two o’clock versus the winner of the Central Valley North playoff game on Wednesday evening.  Don’t forget to check out our website at www.edenvalleyhawks.com!
